Concept Exploration
I started this project by observing people in the library and putting myself in the situation of the end user. This helped me understand patterns of behavior and pain points, which lead to design opportunities.
I conducted interview with students and asked about their experiences using the library.
The Takeaways
1. insights about their preferences of their ideal chair
2. understanding users' tasks and workflow by observing their activities in the library
User Testing
User testing during discovery phase helped me determine what areas I should be focused on. By conducting qualitative interview, I was able to uncover opportunities of what users want. There are set of questions I asked using the interview, which allowed to me discover specific areas I should explore.
Initial Thinking
process and synthesize my findings in order to form solutions
Ideation
In this process, I started brainstorming ideas based on what I learned during my observations and interviews from students. I identified potential areas to tackle the problems and explore possible solutions for improvements
My goals for this ideation process was to design a product that is functional, multipurpose and compact.
Model Making
The prime objective for this prototyping process was to spend the minimum amount of time and to drive down cost during manufacturing process
My original solution for this process was to use CNC milling method, but this process is very costly and require a large amount of materials to produce. With consideration of minimal material choices in mind, my solution was to create the mold using LaserCam that can be used repeatedly . My material choice was Wood Veneers because they are stable an can be bent in a desired angle, leading to many design possibilities
